Schedule and fees
I offer a free initial phone and/or in-person consultation. I encourage you to interview other postpartum doulas as well to make sure you find the right person. After this, we will schedule a 1 - 2 hour home visit at which we develop a plan according to your needs, preferences and expectations. This will allow us to get to know each better and so I can become familiar with your home environment.
I can begin postpartum care when you are ready. I am available Monday through Friday from 9am to 2pm generally. If you have a special circumstance, I will try to accommodate an afternoon or part of an afternoon (2pm to 5pm), evening (8pm to 12am) or weekend visit.
Postpartum care is especially helpful in the first several weeks of the baby's life when breastfeeding is getting established. Typically, postpartum doula services are provided through the first six weeks and up to 12 weeks (the "4th trimester). However, women have varied experiences and circumstances, and so the postpartum period can extend beyond this time. A doula can support you beyond the 4th trimester if you need it, and she can help you identify and establish other supports for when her work is done.
My basic rate is $30/hour in 3-hour minimum and 6-hour maximum increments. I offer the following levels of service, with Baby being the minimum level. My service includes an initial phone or in-person consultation and 1 prenatal home visit. I am also available by phone or email during and after my work with you if you have questions or have the need to talk.
Baby $360.-
12 hours minimum postpartum care
Example schedule: 3 days for 4 hours each day (one week of care)
Mama 1 $700.-
24 hours postpartum care
Example schedule: Week 1 - 3 days in a row for 4 hours each day (12 hours)
Week 2 - 4 days every other day for 3 hours each day (12 hours)
Mama 2 $1400.-
48 hours postpartum care
Example schedule: Week 1 - 3 days for 4 hours each day (12 hours)
Week 2 - 4 days for 3 hours each day (12 hours)
Week 3 - 3 days for 3 hours each day (9 hours)
Week 4 - 3 days for 3 hours each day (9 hours)
Week 5 - 2 days for 4 hours each day (8 hours)
or
Week 1 - 4 days for 5 hours each day (20 hours)
Week 2 - 4 days for 5 hours each day (20 hours)
Week 3 - 2 days for 4 hours each day (8 hours)
Hours can be added to any of the above levels as needed. My hours and availability will depend on my commitment to other postpartum families.
I live in Charlottesville and serve families in the city and surrounding counties. I will charge the standard government mileage rate of $0.51/mile for more than 10 miles outside of Charlottesville city limits. My time working with you begins when I arrive at your home and ends when I leave.
Gift Certificates
Doula services make a wonderful gift - a gift that is thoughtful, practical and unique! Please call for more information about how this works.
A doula gift certificate is perfect for:
* a baby shower - friends can go in on a gift certificate together and really surprise mama-to-be
* grandparents who want to help, but live far away or are unable to come in the first weeks OR who are unable to help physically
* work colleagues who want to do something special
* when the baby or babies are born prematurely and planned help has not yet arrived
Service agreement
I am available to start when you are ready. The first visit should be scheduled 2 days in advance if possible. If we haven't set a schedule at the prenatal home visit, the hours can be scheduled at the first visit when your specific needs become more clear. Things are not always the way you expect them to be, and as first time mothers we may not know what to expect! Even if we are second or third time mothers we may be surprised by how much help we really need and when.
A 50% non-refundable retainer is required when the service agreement is signed at the initial home visit. Payment for each week (50% of fee for hours worked) is required on the first day of the week I am working. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, call me as soon as possible, preferrably within 24 hours. If you must cancel all remaining hours of care, I will refund you 50% of the unused portion of the fee less the retainer. If I am unable to fulfill my obligation to you, I will work with you to reschedule my hours, find a back-up doula or refund you the cost of the hours I was unable to work.
